Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Our Local Swimming Committee (LSC) Pacific Swimming has an additional Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) program. The primary objective of Pacific Swimming's DEI Program is to increase multicultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity and to foster an inclusive environment at all levels of the sport of competitive swimming. The DEI Committee develops and administers programs which are aimed at encouraging existing clubs and related organizations to expand opportunities to provide a competitive swimming experience to those individuals currently lacking such opportunities. Each day families struggle to make ends meet due to the harsh economic time in which we currently live. Many people do not have the discretionary income that they once had for extracurricular activities due to an unforeseen job loss that has adversely impacted income in a negative way. Outreach membership plays a vital role in bridging the gap. USA Swimming outreach membership offers qualified individuals the opportunity to become a USA Swimming year-round athlete member at a reduced fee.
USA Swimming is committed to providing outreach membership for families in need. The national fee for outreach membership is $5.00. The goal of offering outreach membership is to provide opportunities in swimming to economically disadvantaged youth in the United States. Pacific Swimming determines how they will qualify athletes for outreach membership.
To qualify for the Outreach Athlete Registration, the athlete's family must meet the eligibility requirements of at least one of the following:
- Covered California/Medi-Cal
- Homeless Coalition
- Section 8 Housing
- Family income at or below the state poverty level
- Individual Free School Lunch Program * * Not all Free School Lunch Programs qualify so a second form of verification may be required.
All verification must have dates on it to show that it is valid during the season
Meet Entry Fee Assistance Program
Pacific Swimming also aids outreach members using a Meet Entry Fee Assistance Program (MEFAP) to help swimmers cover the costs of entering swim meets. The swimmer would pay for the splash fee associated with each meet and Pacific Swimming will cover the individual swims’ entry fees. To be eligible, swimmers must be a registered outreach swimmer OR have a family-proven hardship, verified by a coach.
Typically the splash fee for each meet is between $8.00 - $10.00
If you are already registered as an outreach athlete, the Sebastopol Sea Serpent coaches will enter your swimmer in meets using the MEFAP program automatically.
