The SSS training groups are designed to provide stoke technique, cardiovascular and muscular conditioning that is appropriate for each swimmers experience, skill level, age, and abilities. Swimmers progress at their individual pace as they advance through the levels.

Pre-Team

Best for swimmers who are comfortable in the water, enjoy swimming, and have had some swim lessons. Swimmers are able to comfortably float, submerge, and move independently across our 2½- to 3½-foot-deep instructional pool with an in-water coach. 

Pre-Team introduces the fundamentals of competitive swimming through fun, engaging practices. Swimmers develop body position, kicking, arm circles, water safety, and work toward side-breathing freestyle and backstroke.

Advanced Pre-Team

Designed for swimmers who have completed Pre-Team or have similar swimming skills. Advanced Pre-Team helps swimmers gain confidence and independence while continuing to develop freestyle, backstroke, endurance, and the skills needed to transition into Junior Serpents. As swimmers are ready, they may have opportunities to practice in the larger pool.

Junior Serpents

Junior Serpents is the introductory program to the team. Swimmers are working towards side-breathing freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, basic water safety, and team building games and relays. This group is perfect for a child who has had some lessons (levels 3 - 5) and loves to swim. 

  • To join, swimmers must be able to swim across the 25-yard pool at Ives.
  • This group swims 3 days per week.
  • Sessions are limited to 16 swimmers.

Group 1

Geared for swimmers who are comfortable swimming freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke and are beginning to learn butterfly. Swimmers continue developing all four competitive strokes, build endurance, and are introduced to local swim meets.

Group 2

Group 2 swimmers have a strong foundation in all four competitive strokes and are ready for a more advanced training environment. Group 2 emphasizes refining stroke technique, starts, and turns while introducing swimmers to structured training concepts such as pace, intervals, stroke rate, and heart rate. Swimmers build endurance, racing skills, and training habits that prepare them for higher levels of competitive swimming.

Pre-Seniors

This group is intended for experienced competitive swimmers with a strong foundation in all four competitive strokes who are committed to advanced training. Pre-Seniors emphasize high-level stroke technique, endurance, race strategy, and goal-oriented training while preparing swimmers for championship-level competition

Seniors

Seniors are highly motivated swimmers committed to reaching their highest potential in competitive swimming. Senior training emphasizes advanced stroke technique, race strategy, endurance, strength, leadership, and personal accountability while preparing athletes for championship-level competition and collegiate swimming. Mandatory practices help athletes develop the discipline and time management skills needed for success both in and out of the pool.

Varsity Prep

Best for experienced high school swimmers who are committed to continuing competitive swimming with a three-practice-per-week training schedule. Varsity Prep emphasizes stroke technique, endurance, and maintaining swim-specific fitness throughout the year.
